Shaull's GREEN TEAM
The PTO's new Green Team wants to get our school excited about going green! Our mission is to help educate our children about what we can do as a school community to help the environment, which will also empower them to help us make beneficial changes in our own households.
Recycling at Shaull
York Trash, which handles waste disposal at Shaull, is a mainstreamed recycling facility. That means ALL acceptable recyclables can go in the same recycling bin!
These acceptable items include:
- Aluminum food and beverage containers
- Glass food and beverage containers (brown, clear and green)
- Bi-metal, steel and aerosol cans
- Plastics #1 and #2 - narrow neck containers only, such as milk, water bottles, etc. without caps
- Plastics #3, 4, 5, 6, and 7 - narrow and screw top containers without lids
- Newspapers
- Cardboard, flattened in 2’ x 2’ bundles
- Residential mixed paper (junk mail, magazines, printer paper)
- Cereal boxes, flattened
*In addition, your children are currently recycling ALL Capri Sun juice bags and Lunchable containers at school!! If you have any at home, please rinse them out and have your child add them to our school’s Terracycle recycling program!
Green Days
Litterless lunches can dramatically reduce the amount of waste produced at Shaull. Help your child pack his/her waste-free lunch by including only what your child can eat, using reusable containers, napkins and water bottles. After each month's Green Day, we will show the students how much trash they saved...the difference is amazing! The Green Team is selling some really fun and eco-friendly REUSABLE sandwich wraps and bags to help you create your litterless lunches.
Take a sneak peek of what we are selling:
Green Days will be held throughout the year, but remember, you can reduce lunch waste everyday!
Volunteers Needed!
We need your help to make Shaull a greener school! Four volunteers are needed each month to encourage the students to reduce lunch waste. If you would like to help the Green Team in this or any other way, please contact us! We also welcome your questions, concerns or ideas.
